Cable Ties
Permalink

   Hi all my reborn family!!

Haven't been on in a while so busy trying to get things done for the holidays. You probably know what that is!!! I have a question so I turn to the experts  !! I made a doll for my granddaughter. Fasten it down with the cable ties that come with the body just probably every does. But where you snip the cable tries off it has a sarp feel to it. What can I use to cover that so it's not so sharp? Thanks for yor help and advise everyone. Try not to go to crazy getting ready for the holidays HA! HA!

Yup! Me too. I get the cheap ones. You have to watch how close you file them as you don't want to file away the part that holds the metal clip inside.

Also, I got a pair of side nail clippers. It has the head sideways. It snips right down to the locking part of the cable so not much to file. I got them at the grocery store in the makeup isle. They are right with the other nail clippers and tweezers. :)

Happy Holidays to you too! HUGS

But what about the thick part that sticks out after the length of the tie is cut? It's sharp, so I will do the emery board thing, but what do we do about that thick lump sticking out?hmm

Only thing you can do is try to slide it up inside the bodyslip. Sometimes that works. But in the end... people might think our dolls are babies but they know they are dolls, so it's all part of the doll. KWIM? :D I haven't run into any customers that mind.

I do still file a little bit just to make sure it's smooth.

I just got a 19" doe suede body from Secrist and it has string ties!

Anyone ever use a body slip with string ties?

How do you feel about it versus using cable ties?
Please respond, Gblankstare

When I first started making porcelain dols I used dental floss, then went to upholstry thread, now I use wire in the porcelain. With the rebornsthe cable ties are so easy, but the thread is just as good, when you tie them off, just put a small amount of glue on the knot so it doesn't slip. Cheap cable ties from some of the $2.00 shops or the Car spare parts shops that sell cheap parts. XXXXX June.

I wouldn't be so upset EXCEPT that the description says cable ties and not string! If they want to sell string, change the description! Here's what they emailed me about this.:

"This is how our body slips now come from our manufacturer in order to keep the cost down. We still sell the cable ties separately but we do not thread them. Our next shipment of bodies will be with the cable, due to a large demand, however the cost will be going up $1 - $2, unfortunately. However, this will not be for awhile until our currently supply runs out. We're sorry for the inconvenience."

I have heard of both boys and girls being named Paris. Its one of those non-specific gender names I think.

Soon...I need to do some more touch up and then I will start to root...I'm guessing I'll be done within a week or two. I have to do this around my health issues, so probably more like 2 weeks.

Talking about names, I think the Cyclone that hit Australia a couple of days ago, it was called Yasi, well there was a baby girl born in the shelter in the middle of the cyclone, if I had been the Mum I would have called her just that, YASI, but her mum didn't see the good side of that and through a cup at the person that asked her if she was going to. Hope it was a plastic cup. But when I get my act together, I will call one of my reborns that, maybe donate it to a worthy cause. XXXXX June

I was thinking of you in OZ June when I heard about the cyclone. You DID go over the rainbow to OZ didn't you hahaha. But in all seriousness, I was hoping it would leave you and your family alone since some of your family was affected by the flooding. Are you all alright? I hope so, I'd like to say no worries! :)
