Recommended masking tapes for scale modelling

If possible, do not use standard brands of masking tape, like the kind you get from hardware stores, on your models. Their adhesive is highly tacky and can pull paint off a model, or leave a gooey residue on the model. A good general masking tape for models is 3M Drafting Tape, available from good art supply stores. Drafting tape looks like masking tape but has a less tacky adhesive that makes the tape easier to remove. ModelMaster and Tamiya also make specialty model masking tapes in small sizes. These tapes, which are good for precise masking of striping or colour separation lines, can be found at hobby shops. I use both types and recommend both methods.
