sheffield: sex city sounds a lot better than pulp go home (which I thought sounded more like a command than a statement...)

Pulp Go Home is a dreadful name for the film in my opinion - Tricia is right, it sounds like they're being told to bugger off

Sheffield: Sex City is no better, the film isn't only aimed at Pulp People. I think it would be interesting to hear titles that people would prefer...

Someone in line (potentially on this forum) suggested Wickermen which I thought was quite good except the obvious fact that Candida is not a man

Not exactly their most well known song but more so than S:SC I think and miles better than calling the film 'common people' which was the initial title

Yes, she is and Candida is a legend. I would so love to hear the story of her life with Pulp. She would have a UNIQUE angle on the whole thing. I volunteer here and now to help her write it!

I think that the responsibility of making a film about a band with so much history and such a following and then intertwine it with people from Sheffield then to aim it at both Pulp fans and non Pulp fans worldwide is a big one. Coming up with a title to match that isn't easy.

I'm hoping if it will be showing at SXSW and hence to an American audience that that means it will be getting a multiregion DVD release? I live an hour from LA so maybe I should keep my eyes peeled for any theaters that might be showing it...

Texas? That's incomprehensible to me.

Jarvgirl, are you allowed to tell us whether, come the time, we can all get tickets to the Sheffield one?

I can tell you for definite that it will be the WORLD premiere of a film about Sheff in at SXSW Texas. Mental as that sounds. Look out for the uk one in Sheffield although I'm not telling you when!

A film about music, and a band like PULP (who is usually well known and respected in music circles)  is actually not that mental to have a world premier in the US. Austin has become a very important centre for music, and SXSW is probably the BEST place to premier this. To the point that I am sure there will be more coverage about it showing in Austin than it would ever have in Sheffield.

It would be nice if the band make an appearance which would hopefully lead to a small performance.

My comment wasn't meant to sound snidey or anything like that, but as you've clearly got a problem with it I apologise and I'll edit my comment. Sorry again.

hi Voxpop, i definitEly don't think it's mental to have the film premiere there, I should have chosen my words better, I suppose it's just funny to me that a concert we all went to and a film with some of us in is being shown so far away, not in a bad way. It's definitely brilliant for the film :) would you do me a favour please and edit out the last half of my comment As I'll be deleting it. Thanks.

Panther, if I don't know something I'll happily admit it, and I've no idea about any details ticket wise or even venue wise. :)

Well, it'll be all the more exciting when the details begin to be announced! At least we have an amazing Pulp happening to look forward to this year.

Passes for film week at SXWS start at $625. Pass holders have first access to seats. Only then are individual seats offered at $10. But Im sure a film like this wont be easy to get into.

I am trying to decide if this means anything more than crossed wires and the anarchy of the internet:

Looking on imdb, see link below, expand section Self under Filmography, there are 2 films listed, Pulp Go Home and one called Common People. I have no idea how imdb works, is it just like a wiki where anyone can write any old nonsense or is it more official than that. There are credits for both films that go into more details than just it's got Pulp in it or whatever. Are there 2 films, maybe a spin-off of the same basic material with a different angle. To add to the confusion, neither of them is called Sheffield Sex City. Or, as is probably more likely, thinking aloud here, they have just been hugely indecisive (what, Pulp?) about the title and there are dregs of various previous versions lurking. I've convinced myself now.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1006741/

Common People was the first title on imdb, which was later changed to Pulp Go Home. I don't know by who but I think anyone can edit things although I'm not sure, there was also the working title Pulp And Sheffield.

Sheffield: Sex City must be the title submitted to SXSW so who knows what the title will end up being here! Not me.

A film about Orange Juice and Edwyn Collins is also debuting at SXSW so I guess the Pulp one would slot-in neatly enough.

...the type of conference where big, additional announcements are slotted-in? If only.

Mind, the Pulp People website is soooo dead - are they not even going to announce the premier or existence of this film there at least?

(A one-off, non-downloadable stream of the film to coincide with the screening for distant fans would be a boon)
