Customizable Player hilts.
JKA handles hilt models much like player models.
you can have several meshes in a glm and you can turn surfaces on/off through the skin files.
I just got done setting up a saber For InsaneSith that has two sabers in one glm seperated by skin files. The .sab has two entries pointing to these seperate skins.
I propose we expand on this by making a Customizable Player Hilt section.
Here we can add several things
a shaft category, buttons, add-ons
Sounds? Blade Styles? Draw and holster Anims? Were you holster it? (If the Holster Offset code is written) etc etc....
As you can see this has quite a few bonuses.
Being as this is THE saber smith site. For you budding smiths as well. Just keep this in mind. I'm sure it will be a reality some time int he near future.
keshire, that would be a awsome idea. Personally I think that it would improve JKJA alot. I'm surprised you haven't thought of this sooner with your brilliant mind.

that does sound like a kick ass idea kesh.. but how do you its gonna be pulled off? i dont know how things like that would work.. can it be done without playing with the source? or can it be done by say a seperate program that would automaticly customize the hilt and pk3 it for you before running the game/during the game via alternate window?
For starting sabers for this mod. I'm goign to be making Race specific Hilts. Like Rodian, Keldor, human, etc. Each with unique options that their race would use. Like the zabrak hilt would be a staff with different arcane markings and spikes and whatnot. While the Human saber would have different variations of what we've seen from the Obi-wan line of sabers. (which include every one's whose been built similar) etc etc etc. Code-Wise I have this planned. Menu's are up in the air. As well as saber designs.
While your doing the coding for that, do you think you could get the SABER_TRIDENT and SABER_LANCE types working? I know I saw them in the game coding somewhere, just not sure which file.
We could possibly make long blades but with smaller damage scaled to it. To balance the length and strength out so that you can't just get a saber with a huge blade that would kill instantly. just a thought

yes. You can change the size of the blade and the damage scale. I was merely stating that to keep the balance while having a larger blade we could dullen the saber damage scale. :)
Don't get me started on those saber flags that alter the game balance. They should've never been externalized. The only thing that should really be a flag is the aesthetic stuff, like everything not related to *whatever*scale and splash*whatever*
So you'd combine the model's that look similar. You'll notice with vader's saber the activator is in different spots, more buttons, different grips etc. colors can be done with different textures though.
I'm goignto combine that whole skywalker line of sabers, as well as the jedi council sabers ! And the classic Obi-wan type sabers.
I've got 8 jedi council sabers combined, 15 more to go...
