This is an English translation of an interview that David Tao (Tao Zhe) did when he was in SG. Think tat the magazine is U-WEEKLY, the one with Hong Kong group TWINS on the cover (the cover is red-themed). Either tat or it is the magazine with Thomas Ong/Fann Wong on the cover.

I got my fren who is stronger in Mandarin to do the translation for me, as I'm very shaky in it.

Superstar contest is very common & popular now. However, Tao don’t think that this is a shortcut to fulfil their artist dream. Becos he finds that the entertainment world is progressing very fast, besides, there are many new competitors coming up. So, this kind of superstar contest can encourage youngster to try

But most importantly, among these overwhelming response from the youngsters, how many of them really are genuine ones?

This is just like using computers to compose music, it creates lots of new music but that doesn’t mean it will creates more good music. Instead, it can create more “garbage music”

This is very similar to the current cool “BLOG” diary o internet which allows anyone to express themselves but which does not rise the literature standard, even for wordings, no literature.

In other words, during the superstar contest, music also slowly lose its spirit.

After what Tao commented, 江 (one of the contestants) for superstar who just participate the contest that morning, seems a bit regretted to have participate.

Youngsters who are serious in making music, what they pursue is who is serious in cultivating his potential instead of packaging.

Tao pointed out, unless the organizer has a very detailed and long term plan to develop new stars, otherwise, he will suspect how many of the winners can turn up to be singer from their potential.

Surprisingly, godfather Tao used to be one of the contestants who failed to win in similar contest.

With regards to the worldwide popular programme, contest, Tao claimed that he only watched once. He is more interested in America’s , which is quite similar to . But as long as you are brave enough to perform on stage (Historical Apollo Theatre), u can perform there but then it depends on whether u will receive a round of applause or jeers from audience.

Sometimes, Tao will feel guilty and lose sleep after watching the professional performance of amateur. He will then keep practicing his singing.

Tao is looking for new band members on his website:www.davidtao.com for the live concert in asia end of 2005.

He hopes that he can look for a suitable band member to join his “soul power band”. The requirements are: strong “playing skills’, age, gender, no race preference but able to sing Chinese songs.

If 江 is not under reservist now, I believe he will be the first to participate in the band member selection.

I believe that Tao who just announce that he will withdraw from the music world 5yrs later, have let many fans heartbroken, do u believe that he will immediately stop making music, just focus in acting movies 5yrs later?

I will not disappear, will just switch to movie making itself includes music, storyline shooting techniques, it exceeded the field of music.

He hopes to make a movie especially for Chinese. Hopes he can write, make and cut (even if it’s a small role) his first movie. It can be commedy or others. Of course, it will be a bit like his music, comedy and some message for the society

His idols are Woody Allen and Martin Scosese’s movies, so his movies may resembles their movies.

The reporter still don’t give up, ask Tao again. “U will really give up music?”

The fans will still get to hear my news but not giving up music totally, just rest a while. Somemore, I may need 3yrs to make a movie. If they miss me, they can buy a movie ticket when the movie is released.
