You've probably seen them streaking through the sky at night...or during the day if you're lucky. But, have you ever seen a shooting star after it hits the ground?
For the next several weeks you can. Tyler Junior College has one of the largest meteors of its kind on display, and for a few dollars you can experience something not of this world.

10-kilometer Stretch of Kansas Filled with Meteorites

He may be looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack, but at least Don Stimpson has an extra large metal detector.
As owner of the Kansas Meteorite Museum, he's searching a ten kilometer stretch of Kiowa County known for "Brenham Meteorites," named for the little town of Brenham once located here, the site of a huge meteor explosion.

Greensburg Big Well

In 1887, farmers, cowboys, transients and mules built the Big Well.
Now, a partnership of museum designers will try to add more wonder to one of the Eight Wonders of Kansas.
They plan to build a below-grade, high-tech, interactive museum around the rustic World's Largest Hand-Dug Well, which was formed with stones hauled by wagon from a river.

The 1,000 pound Space Wanderer Pallasite Meteorite recently returned to its home in Greensburg. The meteorite will be placed on display in the newly completed City Hall, 300 S. Main, until the new Big Well Museum is constructed.

Greensburg Meteorite Returns Home

Before the devastating tornado in 2007, Greensburg was well-known for two things: 1) the world's largest hand-dug well and 2) a meteor shower that occurred about 20,000 years ago.
In 1949, a half-ton meteorite was discovered and moved to the Big Well Museum. Greensburg residents remember the two being linked together for years.

hello, new to this board, we've been studying the brenham+haviland area for 18 years now (wow, has it been that long).

the museum is located about 100 miles west of wichita, between haviland and greensburg 2 miles south of the major east-west road of the area, hwy 54/400, aka kellogg in wichita.
