Hello!

Has anyone heard of this company?  They are offering to train as medical transcriptionists for free - you just have to pay for some sort of computer software.

Any thoughts?

This "outfit" goes by many names. I did a search on one of their other names and found a forum where someone else had applied for their job.  You take their test and they send an email stating you are qualified, this I did just to see what kind of an answer I'd get back.  The whole thing is they want you to buy their software at an expensive price.......then when you start taking the tests they never pass you.  This can go on for months and months then all of a sudden you never hear back from them.  I just took a look a transamassociates.com and it's the same little cartoon gal that was on another one of their sights........same scam!!  Be careful. weirdface

Since my last post I've done some more searching........the address is always the same Valrico, FL 33594. I'd really like to know how many diffrent names they go by. There are many of them. Also they have the same live live support .

Interesting....I have been in medical transcription for 15+ years and found the same thing.

In researching this over the past two days I find that the BBB Online reports that there have been 21 complaints about this company over the past 36 months, but no real conclusion can be drawn from the nature of the info on BBB's website.

I have just posted another question on this in the scam forum.  Basically what I have found is that the software requires a 9-pin footpedal, and a USB adapter can be purchased.  But...I already have a new Infinity footpedal, which is compatible with the Phillips system, and the footpedal that works with the MT Professional software is a Phillips footpedal.

MT Professional and Transam Associates merged in 2005 - They are located in Florida.

Smells like a scam, in real time.  I'd wait and see if anyone else in SoHo jobs has any other info but none of the medical transcription companies I know of, or have worked for, EVER ask you to purchase software (other than needing MS Word and Internet access) and they always provide either their own proprietary software or a download to a free client, such as Citrix.

My conclusion is that this smells like a rat.

Transam Associates - Big Scam

Yes, I have to agree with Connie.  I almost got sucked in by this so-called legitimate company and figured that, since I have been scammed by so many others in the past, that I don't do anything without checking things out first.  Especially when it comes to paying for something.  I found (like Connie) this to be an elaborate scam to separate you from your hard earned money.  I also found a list of complaints about this company.  http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/transam-associates-c36593.html

Any company that asks you to pay money to work for them should sent up a big red flag.  Which leaves me to wonder about the post office ads in some local papers.  You call the number, they give you a list of what they provide and what tests you take but then tell you that you have to pay $129 dollars to take the test.  Can anyone tell me if this is legitimate?  Hard to believe that even the government has joined the gravy train.

RE: www.transamassociates.com

The thing about these types of organizations - they are not necessarily a 'scam' but the advertising that they use is highly misleading. There are MUCH better ways to get the training in medical transcription that you need.

As for those Government post office ads that you asked about  - those are NOT posted by any government agency. They are posted by a job service and should be avoided. They will never lead to a job with the post office! I am surprised that newspapers allow these ads in their classifieds. Avoid them!
