Season Four of Xiaolin Showdown

"Right now life's being good to Eric Radomski.

Part of the original trio that developed the original Batman: The Animated Series (with Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, obviously), Radomski credits also include the original Spawn: The Animated Series for HBO, the animation work on the Jodie Foster movie The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys and, most recently, Xiaolin Showdown. He could have ended up on the chopping block this summer when the XS was completed. Like a lot of animators, many with names even bigger than his, it wouldn?t have been the first time.

"I was wrapping up XS," he recalls, "wondering if we'd be asked to do more episodes when the studio got word from above, Time Warner that is. The entire company was asked to make major budget cuts and all of us here at WB Animation were affected. A couple new shows were cancelled and being that XS had fulfilled the magic number of 52 episodes no more were needed. So in order to continue paying my bills, I snooped around the studio to find out what might be happening next. A fresh version of Scooby was being considered for the newly formed CW network. WB needed a producer, I was available.

(it goes on about scoobydoo)

On the other side of the coin, Radomski also knows how fan support can keep him employed. If you don't believe, he gives viewers all the praise for keeping Xioalin Showdown on the air for 52 episodes and probably has a lot to do with repeats continuing when the new season starts at Kids WB.

"Considering we had next to no publicity it feels AWESOME!," Radomski shouts. "Our fans rule! We love and appreciate their support.

"Honestly I won't even try and speak for the fans, but I can tell you why I enjoy the series. The show plays on multiple levels. It's a buddy comedy, it's a knock down drag out action series, it has the excitement and challenge of a video game, all blended together with very strong characters and solid stories. We've managed to package all of those qualities into 20 minutes and you get to see it all for free. Pretty good deal."

And now a DVD of the first season was just released, although Radomski does have a bone or two to pick about it.

"First off I appreciate the fact that WB decided to release the series to DVD," he notes. "Unfortunately they simply packaged the first 13 episodes on two disks and that's about it. No extras. No behind the scenes. No nothing. Here is where our fans can exercise their opinions. Write to WB Home Video and demand more. I can speak for all of us that made the series and tell you that we?d love to give back to our fans all that they deserve for being so supportive."

Speaking of being supportive, as fans know, it wasn't XS little logo Omi becoming "the Chosen One" at the end of the series, but his fellow warrior Raimoundo. If Radomski, and you fans, want to do something about this, there is a plan.
"As far as Kids WB is concerned, no new episodes have been made, no new episodes have been ordered," says Radomski. "The existing series was picked up by Cartoon Network and has blossomed into a solid performer for them. It's certainly possible for new episodes to be made. If the season one DVD sells well an original long form video is always a possibility. Hopefully our fans will plunk down some dollars to help the cause."

And if that does happen, folks, then life truly is being good to both Radomski and animation fans."
