| The Stanley Brothers,Carter and Ralph should have been in the Hall of Fame many years ago.The close harmonies are the very basis for good Hillybilly or now called country music.My family has been playing that style of music since 1929.Carter Stanley was ,in my opinion the very best at songwriting,singer,rhythm guitarist, and the very pinacle of what an entertainer should be.He was the best in every field and should be the example for new young artist to follow in the professional field of bluegrass.Ralph and Carter had the close harmony that usually only brothers possess,since they are so close and practice harmonies so many times.When the Stanley Brothers started in late 1946 and first recorded about February 1947,in my opinion there has never been any greater example of this type of music anywhere.One can only imagine where the Stanley Brothers could have gone if not for the untimely death of Carter in December 1966.Carter had the best personality of any country music entertainer that I ever met.Carter wrote from the heart when he wrote the very many classics of our music.I am proud to say I know Carter and Ralph Stanley.It was a very difficult situation that Ralph Stanley faced going back on the road after losing his brother.That is the mark of a great entertainer.Ralph's choice of Larry Sparks to continue the sound of the Stanley's was the best choice.Ralph just turned 80 and I think the only award that he hasn't gotten is to be in the Hall of Fame as the Stanley Brothers.Bill Monroe once told me that Carter Stanley was the very best lead singer that he ever had in the Bluegrass Boys.I second that opinion as there were none better that Carter Stanley.Ralph has set all kinds of records after "O'Brother".It is a shame to wait forty years after the last great songs from the legendary Stanley Brothers,to just now try to get them into the Hall of Fame.Everyone should sign the petition at once, so we can get them into the Hall of Fame this year.Roy Sykes,Jr.E-mail me at scooter_24224@hotmail.com or write to me at POB 447 Saint Paul,VA. 24283.Please sign the petition now.
