The only recording from this tour seems to be the Manchester date, according to Pulpwiki. I can't remember the bootleg being shared before, does anyone have it? http://www.pulpwiki.net/Pulp/Live111193ManchesterUniversity

Must have been a great time to see Pulp - a buzz really beginning to generate about them, creeping towards the top 40 with every subsequent single (Lipgloss apparently featured in the background of a scene on Coronation Street around this time - if there's any Corrie fans on here, it seems someone has uploaded thousands of old episodes on YouTube if you fancy looking for it!), and two other hip young bands supporting in Longpigs and Elastica. Interesting bit in Russell's book about the Aberdeen date.

No, I'm afraid I don't have it which is pretty annoying really. The Lipgloss tour was the first time I saw Pulp. The Leadmill show I was at is the one Russell talks about in his book when he smashes all the lightbulbs. And by the way the answer to your question is yes it was a great time to see Pulp and they were absolutely fabulous in the sweaty, tiny confines of the Leadmill. I was down the very front and suffered some serious bruising to my chest from being continually squashed against the edge of the stage. To be honest the show has become something of a fulcrum in my life, pre and post Pulp if you like. In fact the show has become a kind of magical occurrence in my life. There was a kind of transformation that took place that night both inside and outside of the venue that's actually quite difficult to talk about. I'll never forget the feeling I had upon leaving the Leadmill to find that it had been snowing all the time the concert was going on. I think the whole thing is very Pulp like.

The closest show I have is this one www.pulpwiki.net/Pulp/Live051193FestivalsLesInrockuptiblesRennes

Sounds magical...you lucky bugger.

Could you share the Les In Rockuptibles one if it's close to hand? I love listening to the Marc Radcliffe session they did during this tour - there's a sense of Mark Webber's influence creeping into the music yet Russell's playing still to the fore pre the Bullerization of HnH.

If someone can give me the details I can upload the mentioned gig - DYRTFT? I am not sure if it is the debut of the song or not, it does include a rather funky "do do do do do doooo do do do" lyricial genius by Jarvis towards the end of the song !

Ok so the first link should be to the Inrockuptibles show.

The second link is to the performance of Lipgloss that Pulp gave on The Word the night before I first ever saw them (skip to 10:50). It got me quite excited!

Yep, works great! Thanks a lot, listened while ploughing through spreadsheets atwork earlier.

Jarvis really struggles with the high notes at times on this, especially DYRTFT but as it was a brand new song I guess he learned to pace himself when preforming it live.
Just thinking, when HnH came out, the only songs not to have been heard before ie played live, were the end of side two and of those, David's Last Summer was only performed briefly after the album came out and Someone Like The Moon never. I wonder was there a conscious decision to tack them on at the end of the album. David's Last Summer is a fine closer but they seemed to have more confidence in the other songs on the record. I guess they had a good idea from audience reactions when playing them live, some for as long as three years previously, how good they were.

Yeah its a curious one about Davids Last Summer. Never a fan of the song, and in my opinion sounded better live.

I never had much love for David's Last Summer when the album came out (by which I mean I hated it) and I must confess to having been incredibly disappointed when they played it live as an encore at a show I attended (of course not know I feel rather wonderful about it). I suspect I was probably a little too young at the time to really appreciate it (a callow 17). It's definitely assumed a greater sense of meaning in my life as I now approach 40. I've also become a little obsessed with it's genesis and how it came about. It clearly owes a great debt to My First Wife and it certainly contains lots of references to bits of Sheffield. I have long wondered when it was written as thematically it also shares a lot with those songs Jarvis was writing around the early 90's after he'd left Sheffield. Was it knocked up quickly in the studio? Why would you knock up a seven minute song quickly in the studio then choose it as the grand finale? I don't really know how the band feel about it. Lots of questions about the song in my mind.

Re the music to DLS, I think it was made-up of all the snippets leftover from the album sessions, similarly to Catcliffe Shakedown the following year. The beat that propells the first part of the song helped me get into and appreciate the song as it's the least immediate one on the album, apart from 'Moon, I guess.

Well, it's an interesting theory but why decide to close your first major label album with a song constructed from bits and bats? It's not as though they were stuck for excellent material at that time. They'd been playing songs like Your Sisters Clothes and His n Hers for months live, why wasn't one of those included on the album (especially His n Hers)?  The b sides from this period make a superb companion album that I probably listen to more than HnH itself.

Now, woah there! I think David's Last Summer is an utter masterpiece, and the perfect closer to His'n'Hers. Always assumed that was the general consensus - apparently not...

I find the lyrics incredibly evocative and moving, and the music is a perfect backdrop to that. It might have been stitched together from some other leftover bits, but I'm not sure if that's relevant - that's just how they'd work, having these jam sessions and coming up with fragments that they'd then sift through, recycle and go back to, and eventually weave into complete songs. It's hard to know without being a fly on the wall at Catcliffe, but I get the impression a lot of their material came together through that sort of process.

As for why they seldom played it live - I guess it's a piece that's very much led by the lyrics, which don't always come over clearly in a live environment. Plus it's quite long, so they'd probably have to leave two other songs out to make time for it, which probably wouldn't have been a popular move!

Wow, it's been a while since I downloaded anything from the yahoo email account! And the audio files are .WMA - how retro! It feels like the mid 2000s all over again.

Also, David's Last Summer is probably one of my favourite Pulp tracks. The absolute high point is the "We went driving" bit. One of my favourite moments in any Pulp song.

Is that the point, (and if not then, when?) where Nick goes all fire extinguisher on our asses?

I think the fire extinguisher bit is "and the birds deciding where to go for the winter (clink, clink)"

I agree, wonderful track.  Did hear it live at The Forum once.   I love to hear the more epic Pulp songs live (Sheffield Sex City, Wickerman, I Spy etc.) but they do introduce a bit of a lull in the set, so only one or two would ever be played.

Could have sworn they did all three of those at Brixton but according to setlists they didn't do I Spy.

Do people just need the secret questions now - I think they are the same on the various accounts?

Where did you spend your honeymoon? Pulp (random answer here!)

What is the surname of your favourite musician? Cocker

I have had trouble with these accounts for some time. I am asked for verification on all accounts. Email "A****@gmail.com" and the 2007 account asks for phone verification "#44........15"

I can't seem to figure out why?
