Russell and Nick's Glastonbury '95 recollections in April's Mojo magazine

Hello all. I don't blame anyone here for missing this as, rather bafflingly, it wasn't trailed on the front cover of the mag at all. Anyway, as far as I can remember they devoted a page to each, including some pics. Russell recalled camping out backstage at short notice and included a could-have-been-interesting anecdote about his end-days with the group, something about attending a party in the wee-hours with Chris Thomas that sadly didn't make much sense chronologically. (That part seemed badly transcribed. I can't be certain, but it's possible Russell's entire article was taken wholesale from his book. I wouldn't know - haven't read it yet.) As you'd probably expect, Nick's piece was not quite so interesting, the best part being his gleeful recollection of Blur hitching a lift in the Pulp jet to fly to Iceland in '96. Although, what that has to do with Glastonbury '95 is a bit of a mystery. I suppose having their own private jet could be seen to be the pinnacle of the decadent rock star lifestyle that the success of the Glastonbury performance (and Common People, of course) sparked off. There were one or two interesting pics in there that I'd never come across before - one at the festival itself with Russell and a beaming Justine from Elastica (probably the first time I've ever seen that girl smile). And another of that year's Later... with Jools Holland line-up with Candida, Jarvis, the Finn brothers and an uncomfortable-looking Morrissey on the periphery. The recently-deposed king (he was promoting the Southpaw Grammar album at the time) with the young pretender to the throne. Jarv is on the verge of pulling a face in the photo, exactly as he was on the only other picture that I've seen of the performers that night. You know, I've always wondered whether any of the Pulp camp exchanged words with Morrissey that evening. I know Jarvis had his problems with The Smiths in the eighties, but surely that can just be chalked up to petty jealousy, can't it? And from what I heard, Morrissey effectively curated that Nancy Sinatra album that Jarvis contributed to a few years later. So maybe Moz was listening closely that night in '95. After all, it's hard to imagine anyone (even Morrissey) not being floored by that stunning performance of I Spy (plus orchestra) that they turned in that evening. Still, to have been a fly on the wall that night...
