I am pretty sure few people actually read the question on the ballot paper.   A prize to anyone who knows without looking it up.

It beggars belief that so many became so pro-European Union as a result of the referendum with a total lack of understanding of what the EU is, what it does and who actually represents the UK in the EU.  Because no one cared about it at all in 2014 (just two years ago) and didn't vote, there are 24 UKIP MEPs which is a third of the UK representation.    I don't remember many rock stars mentioning that at the time.  Easy to jump on a popularity bandwagon.

Having dressed as a geography teacher for many years, interesting he now is telling us Britain is in Europe.  Of course the irony here is the English channel separated Britain from Europe about 300,000 years ago.  So Britain (and indeed the UK which is leaving the EU) is not in Europe.  Massive fail!

Norway and Switzerland are definitely in Europe, but not in the EU.  Are they just denying geography?

You're welcome, maidmarion.

ArrGee, yes, I find it so comical that we now get to see Jarvis, who has, as you say, 'dressed as a geography teacher for many years', actually teaching us geography! Hee-hee. All I can say is - I would have taken a lot more interest in continental drift, volcanic magma chambers and population explosions if Jarvis had been my A-level teacher. Just imagine the field trips!

As for an absolute geographical definition of Europe - I'm not sure there is one. When I was young, Europe definitely referred to continental Europe only (i.e. not us) but my Aussie and American friends of the same vintage grew up using the term to refer to an area that included the UK, as well.

Geographically speaking, I quite like being half-in and half-out of Europe, which is what politically we may end up being, too.

Erm, did someone forget about the massive railway tunnel (in fact two tunnels!) that opened over 20 years ago that does in fact connect Britain with Continental Europe....

... And which Jarvis JUST HAPPENED TO BE THE FUCKING CULTURAL AMBASSADOR FOR?!!!

No, but that is engineering rather than geography

There is a world of difference between In and Connected To.    It is possible to argue there are physical parts of Africa that are really in Europe (Morocco near Strait of Gibraltar) and physical parts of Europe that are really in North America (Bridge between two continents - Iceland).  Japan is arguably mostly physically located in North America.  Really depends on how you define continents.  Some consider it politically, some culturally,  some geographically and even then there are differences of opinion (tectonic plates or land mass?) .   About 500 million years ago (going back a bit here) most of what is England and Wales broke off of North America and crashed into Europe.

God called the expanse "Sky".

P.S. Sarah's contribs on this thread are AbFab (not the movie).

Arrgee it is very difficult to take you seriously when you write this kind of rubbish.

'Europe' traditionally refers to an imperialist bloc rather than a precise geographical area.

Also known as 'the part of the world responsible for fucking up most of the rest of the world'.

Most of Japan (like parts of the north east of Russia) is on the same tectonic plate as North America.  dbb579ecbd74026f79f718a65fad90591218e553

Some things never change: Jeremy Hunt is still running the world (of the NHS).
