Well it was a great (acoustic) show, it was great to meet Neil afterwards and get my albums signed. The new album is definitely a grower...

Nice one, had you told him that you had met before in 1999?

By the way, don't know if you've seen the session he did for the Beeb this week containing Jarvis' favourite musical instrument circa 1999, the omnichord!

Oh and does he actually have a regular backing band when playing or is it he alone who is The Divine Comedy? I saw him live before but think he was on his own.

He did a stint doing solo piano shows a few years back but he's back with a full band these days.

New album arrived today. I love it! It's both fun & ambitious.

I can't remember meeting him in 1999. I think it's more to do with the fact that "A Secret History" was released 20 years ago.

Today (well, yesterday now), he played acoustic guitar and keyboards and he had someone else playing acoustic guitar and doing backing vocals. Their line-up history is more complex than Pulp's... I'll leave it at that biggrin

New album. Well, it's certainly different to their other stuff. I hated "Queuejumper" at first but it has grown on me and sounded much better when he played it live. This one has several electronic tracks; there is a definite Kraftwerk influence which of course, isn't a bad thing (and lest we forget, he covered them on the radio years ago).

And as much as I hate posting photos of myself online, here we go...

New album entered the album charts at number 5 (down to number 79 this week!), which must be his highest placing in a long old time. It only took less than 6,000 copies sold to do it though. I know we're all getting old and ''it's not like it was in my day'' etc. etc. but I do feel for any emerging music act trying to establish themselves. Nigh on impossible to get the chance to grow and earn enough while doing so.

Just stumbled across this, Neil pretty much acknowledges what you are saying:

If you were to give a piece of advice to musicians just starting out, what would that be?

Have a second job. I dont understand how anybody can make enough money starting out in the music business right now. I was extremely lucky to begin in an era when we still recorded onto 2 tape, and we made records and cassettes and CDs and things, and people bought them, and gave you money. Im alright now, I can sort of get by with my fans and make a bit of cash. But Im worried about the new generation. I feel like its impacting on the quality of the music as well - but anyway, mustnt grumble.
