Back in 2015 I interviewed Russell Senior for just short of two hours. He talked almost entirely about Pulp, the people, the fans, the music, the records, the reformation, etc. Etc. All cut through with his dry, observational wit. It was amazing. And he was an absolutely lovely host.

Due to my own laziness and disorganization, the finished interview never ended up on the webzine that I was doing the interview for. It sits, all 10,000 transcribed words of it, in an email in my inbox.

I didn't even transcribe it myself, tbh. Some fans - more dedicated than me! - did it in chunks.

Anyway, there was just too much brilliant stuff to fillet through and turn into an article short enough for the publication in question. And I didn't have the drive.

I've toyed with the idea of just making the whole wodge of it available for free, but it doesn't seem fair to Russell, who gave me two hours of his time so he could flog some copies of his book.

So here's an idea - head over to Amazon, pick up a kindle copy (or hardback, if you're feeling generous!) of his book - Freak Out The Squares - and stick some pictorial proof under this thread.

I don't think it's fair to include copies you've already bought!

Say, something like five copies of the book in exchange for every 1,000 words of the interview? That would ensure him 50 copies sold by the time I've finished posting it, which is probably something like what the article might have ensured.

I've cross-posted this to the 'Trollies...' Facebook group and will add any 'sales' together.

Or if anyone can think of another way for this to benefit Russell, then let me know!

I have been meaning to buy this for years but never got round to it.

Naughty, I know! But I've bought it now...

That makes two of you so far!

The interview works really well as a 'follow up' to the book, so enjoy reading the book first!

This is a top idea Stephen!

I will happily buy a few copies on Kindle... though I don't have one to read it on (and am happy with my hardback that I got as a birthday present when it came out!) Would anyone here like a Kindle copy?! I have 4 copies to give away, so PM me with your email address if you'd like one. (UK readers only).

Fully support this, although I've (inevitably) already got the book. Everyone who hasn't got Freak Out the Squares should pick it up immediately though cos it's bloody ace.

I would recommend it even for people who are not into Pulp, it's just that good. I wish he wrote more!

Yep, it's nearly as good as that infamous Amazon review of it!

So, any scope for getting another 1000 words out of Stephen? Who's not bought this flamin' book yet?

No increase on the 7 copies bought so far, sadly.

Mind you, one of those bought was a pricey hardback, so maybe I could pull another 1,000 words out...

Now that Stephen is perusing the board again, could his full transcription finally see the light of day? The Bath Banker transcription is an interesting slice of early Pulp history but I would prefer to read Russell 2015's Pulp thoughts in full.

Now my ears are burning, Eamonn :)

My aim in finally getting it published was that hopefully it would encourage people who hadn't yet done so to actually buy the book. Unfortunately, it seems that everyone who might have done already has. It would take a long time to make a decent article out of the whole thing - and get anyone to publish it, so it will need to be a transcript, I think. But where should it sit? Does anyone have any Pulpish or Britpoppish blogs out there (or know of any?) who'd be willing to take it on? I'd rather put it somewhere public facing than bury it on this board. Especially as Russell did let me have two hours of his time - and two cups of his tea.

Where's the first extract you posted? On this board somewhere but I'm not sure how findable it is...

Yes, it's definitely somewhere on the board! I'll reply in the thread if I find it.

Hi Flowerboy, thanks for the offer! Do you have a link to your blog? I'd definitely be keen for it to go somewhere like that :)

I have private messaged you Stephen. I would like a copy of the transcript as well please, if possible.

Attached are two screenshots as proof of the two kindle copies I purchased (£11.99 & £10.99). I also bought a hardback copy (£18.99).

Ever hopeful this is enough.

Ah, right - after trawling the entire forum - it seems like this never happened - other than the first 1000 words. (Thank you, thank you, thank you!)

Hoping it will be resurrected and shared in some form - yeah I'd love to hear the tapes!!

And so I wait, with the other Russell watchers... hopeful, ever hopeful.
