Seems like no vinyl reissue at the end of October. I thought it was remastered alongside His n Hers by Steve Mackey.

Had hoped for the interchangeable sleeve.

I thought they were just being a bit tardy with the announcement but it does feel now like it's not happening. I'm pretty sure I read that His N Hers & DC were remastered my Jarvis & Mackey at Abbey Road. I'm guessing the blame will lie with Universal.

 I have bought a dozen LPs since lockdown.  Probably saved over £1,000 not going out.  Havent been in a pub for 6 months, no football, no gigs, no theatre, no comedy shows.  An LP every fortnight is as good as it gets...

Yes - U2, Ultravox, Mansun, Divine Comedy and even Menswear(!) are all bringing out expensive deluxe sets before Christmas. This is the time to do it. Who knows if there will be much of a market left for high-end physical music retrospectives in ten years time.

Very tempted by Divine Comedy retrospective, but having spent around £250 for the Barbican gigs, another £300 on the CDs and LPs seems too much...

Thankfully no Bowie box this year.

The Divine Comedy is well worth it, it's packed with unreleased material. It's a fan must and will sell no matter what coz people are looking for it. It's almost sold out already.

What i meant about Different Class, is that most "fans" wont bother buying a record with no new tracks, at a rate that would interesting financially for Pulp. That kind of release with no extra stuff is made for casual buyers that browse shops looking for something to buy, but with no target in mind.

The only DC reissue i would buy would be a complete remix, not just a remaster.

Sold out?   I am waiting until it is released next week and seeing if Amazon sell it with autorip.  Too lazy to rip all the CDs.  The CDs do seem like good value, but invariably I would buy the vinyl as well.  

Maybe, but given I purchased the new His n Hers last year with nothing new,  I suspect I would buy the Different Class reissue.  Especially with the interchangeable covers.  The white His n Hers has sold out.

Barbican didn't offer refunds so I still have tickets for 4 of 5 nights.  Expect to get the other night when people return tickets.  If it happens that is.

Disco 2000 released 25 years ago today. Given its enduring appeal, in many ways a more instant rush than Common People for casual fans/staple of wedding bands etc; it's surprising that it didn't do even better in the charts. I guess some new fans of Pulp would have ducked out of buying a single from an album less than a month old which they had just bought but the constant radio/video airplay would have helped offset that.

Anyway, it also means that Ansaphone was first heard 25 years ago today too. I only discovered it in 2002 but Christ, that summer I wore out the Disco 2000 single on my Discman constantly repeating the B-side.
A real shame they never tried it live. Maybe on the next reunion...

One of Different Class's "buddies", The Great Escape, was reissued on coloured vinyl today in a pointless Black Friday release - ooh, one half blue, the other white. Jarvis' two solo records also reduxed today in new colours; at least with new mastering on Further Comps to hopefully offer something a little more than a cosmetic upgrade.

I don't have Further Complications on vinyl so was good to get one of the ltd edition white copies. I didn't know it had also been remastered so this is a bonus.

I put a green 'Jarvis' in my basket too. I see they've added 'Running The World' to the album proper ... but they must have all gone by the time I checked out as only FC went through.

I still think it's a travesty that nothing has been done for DC at 25. It there is so much potential to make a great release.

Disco 2000 single summons memories of the 4 tracks on repeat whilst playing Donkey Kong Country on the SNES endlessly!

The 'proper' version of Ansaphone is obviously far superior to the more widely available demo version from the 10 year (TEN YEAR!!) deluxe editions.

I think people just bought the album instead, it hung around in the top 10 for weeks and weeks. Also, the charts in the run up to Christmas were always unpredictable back then.

Wow, just compared the digital version of the 2020 remaster of FC to the 2009... I can't imagine for the life of me why they felt it necessary to remaster an album from 2009 that had a reasonable amount of dynamic range (for the time), only to brickwall it to the death NOW?! What is the actual sense in that? Did someone regret that it did not sound 2009 enough first time around, they had to give it a second chance of sounding like utter shit, like all the other albums of the era did?  Someone daft as a brush was in charge of this one.

The argument about the 'loudness war' is indeed long, drawn-out and tedious, but it's kind of gobsmacking that anyone felt an album from 2009 needed to be louder and more compressed, especially one that sounded fine to begin with. 2009!! Fucking hell. Into the trash bin it goes.

No idea, if you put the digital master onto vinyl I don't think you'd be able to keep the stylus on the turntable. Never owned the album on vinyl so can't comment. They've brutalised the digital version compared to the original CD, though, of that there's no doubt at all. I'm trying to work out why anyone would have actually chosen to treat it that way... perhaps to make it uniform with the debut solo album... even then, that would be nuts. Hang on to your original CD/digital rips!

I think there's a good chance that the original FC sounded relatively good due to being mastered by an associate of Steve Albini, who is quite particular about these things. Presumably out of his hands now. Still, no need.

Ive just listened to the FC album on Deezer, and I think the reviews above are a little harsh? I think certain songs did benefit from the remastering. However I do find the repressing pointless unless you didnt already own the original presses.

Had a first listen to my copy of FC. I understand the grief with the remastering but it's alright. Better than that pissy Music On Vinyl re-release of Different Class!
