Jarvis just guested on Scharpling and Wurster's "The Best Show" 24 hour live stream. I missed it because I only found out from someone else on Twitter.

The podcast isn't up yet but here is the page so I can keep you updated.

There is a bit of Pulp talk on that American one. The host mentions his love for We Love Life and Jarvis says that he had listened back to all the Pulp albums recently when this reunion idea came up . He promised the presenter that they'd play a couple of songs off it. Made me think that maybe it will just be a generic festival-hit-heavy reunion.

If they are doing festivals then they aren't going to get away with anything other than a greatest hits set & the case being that most of those songs come from one particular album, then I can't see how they'd get around that.

Hits & festivals in the summer followed by a tour in the autumn with the opportunity to do longer sets would be the obvious way but even then, for a band that's over 40 years old, they don't have a lot of material to choose from. Especially when you consider that 3 out of their 6 or 7 albums probably aren't really going to get much of a look in at all.

Until they start rehearsing, I doubt even the band know how exactly this is going to work but if Jarvis is sitting down and listening to everything, rather than just pulling out songs from the top of his head, I'd say that's a good sign that they are going to at least try something a little different to last time.

Personally, for me, they can play whatever they want & I'll be happy (I may eat those words 12 months from now)

I know what you mean. I saw Matt Berry twice, in 2009 and 2011. Apart from a couple of new songs from his recently released album, he played an identical set to the one he'd played 2 years previously.

It just made me think that Pulp have accepted offers to play but have yet to flesh-out whether there will be anything different to the live shows (ie album-based/fancy indoor venues with a string section etc.) than just festival/hits types.

Pulp have 100+ songs from when Nick Banks and Steve Mackey joined, so should be a few good sets in that.  I would argue Intro is an album as well as the other 7 (or 8 if you include MOTU compilation).  And the Bonus CDs in deluxe editions makes about 11 LPs.

I suspect there will be a core set with Common People, Babies, DYRTFT?, Sorted and Disco 2000 but outside of that they could play any of a dozen other songs from Separations onwards.  Last time out over 40 different songs got played https://www.setlist.fm/stats/pulp-bd6bdda.html?year=2012  which to my mind is pretty impressive for a band who could have just done a hits set.

Pulp will always put on a good show and send you away happy.  Last time out I saw them at Hyde Park, Brixton and Albert Hall and every show was superb.  I'd happily settle for similar this time around.

I would love a fancy indoor venue with a string section.  Maybe seated though

I can't remember the exact number, but I remember reading somewhere last time they had tried out a huge number of songs - well over a hundred, might even have said nearly 200! Some didn't work out, Lipgloss being a notable case that's been discussed on here lately. Maybe some they didn't "feel". But some quite ancient ones got played on the back of some specific local hook, like Back in L.A. and there was some premise for singing Dogs Are Everywhere somewhere in Eastern Europe for example. As well as the My Lighthouse/ Little Girl section featuring in many of their own shows rather than the festival version of the set. So they seem definitely open to it.

I just listened to this and there are loads of interesting bits and pieces in it. At one point, I assume when talking about After You, Nick did say that it had entered their heads to make a new album. It obviously didn't happen then, but no harm in throwing some petrol on the fire. Didn't Jarvis say something about the start of Jarv Is..., that he had some songs that he didn't think were Pulp songs or some such thing. Well maybe now he has some songs that aren't Jarv Is... songs!

Nick also gave a shout out to Rattlesnake as being a great lost song, as it's one of my favourites that made me happy.
