For curiosity sake, would you prefer to see Pulp live even if it's an outdoor festival Different Class-heavy set, over in 75 minutes with about 14/15 songs played à la many of the 2011/12 performances.... OR a new Jarv Is... album in the next 12 months and the promo and gigging that would come with that?

We may of course get both, but I'm intrigued to know what the consensus is.

I feel that I saw the best of Pulp live a decade ago - the large-masses communal goodfeeling headline sets at Primavera and Electric Picnic; the fan-friendly indoor show (Brixton), and the homecoming marathon gig (Sheff Arena).

It would be great to relive similar gigs but honestly, for me, as amazing as Pulp are live, I would be really disappointed if this stopped Jarv Is... doing new music. I really like the sound of the new songs he's done with his current group and it would be a shame if this fruitful outlet he has found with musicians who arguably are more versatile/interactive live (Emma and Serafina particularly with the BVs and prowess at violin/guitar and harp/synths respectively), was to halt abruptly.

I think we'll probably get both cakes and eat them and i have fingers-crossed that Pulp will do something special with some of the live shows (be it an album show for Hardcore or some new/WLL offcuts performance) along with the lucrative festival dates they are going to be offered.

Obviously new Pulp music would trump everything (I'd take a new album alone if they retired from live performances versus live shows and no new music!).

But..if you had to choose one or t'other...which would it be?

Interesting revisiting this thread below from a decade back where we discussed the merits of Reunion#1...

I thought I'd seen in some interview somewhere that there basically already is material for a new Jarv Is... album. So it seems that is going to happen anyway and presumably would then be toured.

I can't abide festivals, so no interest in that, even if it turns out to be the only incarnation of Pulp in this reunion, there is just no point for me as I essentially wouldn't see them, I might get to peer at them on the big screen from the distance away I would be to avoid giving myself a claustrophobic panic attack. I don't see the point of going to a live event to watch a big screen - see also Henman Hill, what is that all about?

So the only question remains is will there be actual Pulp gigs as opposed to sets at festivals? Nick dropped a heavy hint in his Radio Sheffield interview that there would be a Sheffield show - something along the lines of it doesn't take Einstein to work that out. And what line up of Pulp is involved this time? I find it hard to believe they would do it without all of them, at least the post-97 all of them.

There is new Jarv Is...material and I doubt Pulp will only just do festival dates. Like you, I can take or leave the latter.

I'm just interested to see how interested people are in Jarvis doing new songs outside of Pulp compared to him playing the old favourite songs live with Pulp.

They pulled it off so well last time, there has to be an angle for this to be on par or better, or else what's the point?

Without knowing what form the reunion will take, at the moment I'd waver towards new Jarv Is stuff. Not that I'd turn my nose up at the chance to see Pulp again (obviously), but he's been on such a roll with new stuff lately that I'd be disappointed to see that put to one side for the nostalgia act. I think / hope legohair is right though - they don't really tend to halfarse things, so you'd expect them to have some kind of new twist rather than just a rerun of 2011/12.

Yes, the only point to it otherwise would be £££s which would be a little sad. Obviously they wouldn't do 'owt for free, but a fresh angle to it all would be more Pulp-like.

I was listening to some of the 2011/12 live bootlegs from Ian's site over the weekend. Was surprised at the quality of some especially the two nights at Brixton.

I'm just gutted I missed Sheffield Arena (Although Brixton was amazing! Especially second nite with Sheffield Sex City)
Unfortunately my gf at the time kicked up a fuss & said we must go to a friend's birthday party instead :-/

(Edit: by which I mean I really hope I actually get to see Pulp's 'final' UK gig this time, as I did Auto)
